“Fashion For All Shapes And Sizes” The 2nd Annual Jarix Fashion Show
BY JALESSA CASTILLO, TIMES STAFF WRITER
LAKE MARY - On Sunday, April 30th I had the honor of being invited by Senia Soto, a 20 year old Couture Fashion Designer, to cover the 2nd annual Jarix Fashion Show with my friend, and freelance photographer, Raquel Legette. When we entered The Heathrow Country Club we were taken back by not only the beauty of the country club but also the great music and the variety of vendors.
Before the fashion show started we went to a few of the vendors who gave us raffle tickets so that we could enter to win some free items later in the night. The prizes ranged from free makeup to a free massage!
Amongst the many faces, there was special guest and former contestant on America’s Next Top Model, Victoria Henley. Henley not only modeled Soto’s designs but she showed off some of her own as well.
Soto displayed outfits from four different collections and her fashions were a hit with all in attendance! In fact many people went on to buy from her once the show ended, including me.
Despite the night being all about Soto, as the show was featuring her creations, she was very nice and took some time to speak with me once the show ended to tell me more about the vision behind her apparel.
“I want to show women that you can be any size, any age and you can feel beautiful, comfortable and stylish,” said Soto. “You can rock anything with full confidence.”
Soto went on to express her appreciation for all those in attendance, especially her mother, who served as host of the show.
“My mom is my best friend,” said Soto. “She has been there for me financially, emotionally, just everything. She is my rock.”
Along with presenting her beautiful clothes, Soto and her family used the show for a charitable cause. Right before the models stepped out onto the runway they drew attention to the serious problem of homelessness in the nation and announced that proceeds from the show were to be donated to the Join4Cause Foundation. The foundation’s activities include feeding, clothing, giving shelter and educating the homeless. Their goal is to feed at least 1,000 families a month.
