Fear Of Flying Book-The Orlando Times
Pastor Eddie Harris Helps You Overcome The Fear Of Flying
BY DEVIN HEFLIN, TIMES STAFF WRITER
ORLANDO - David stated, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighteth in his way.” This scripture was a successor to the beginning of that select number of Psalms which began by encouraging the believer that trouble wouldn’t last always, but triumph does.
For Rev. Eddie Harris, a modern David which has slayed multitudes of Goliaths, his triumphs continue to soar.
Harris is a Renaissance Reverend, who holds a background as a Pastor, author, motivational speaker, songwriter, workshop facilitator, producer, scholar and theologian, who to today will train those aspiring to heed the call and enter the ministry.
He offers the following advice to those interested in entering the vineyard as a worker: “Don’t go into it because you’re persuaded by man, go into ministry because you’re called by God.” He said.
“Second, don’t imitate anybody. God has called you to be unique. Be what God has called you to be.”
Harris was born in Sanford, FL, the son of Rev. Eddie Harris Sr. and Mary Traylor Harris and reared for portions of his life in Montgomery, Alabama; Cleveland, Ohio; and Orlando, Florida. It’s from the latter that Harris graduated from Jones High School.
He holds a Master’s of Divinity Degree from Turner Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia.
This revolutionary Reverend is the founder and chairman of EHJ Ministries, Inc., a non-denominational ministry based out of Orlando which travels and promotes community outreach. “It makes no sense to have a church on every corner if the lives on the corner aren’t being changed.”
“Ministry is about reaching the people, not boasting from the pulpit.”
After doing what he called “running” from his call for some eighteen years, Harris accepted the call to preach the gospel in the year 2000.
“I had been through it, from failed marriages, to losing everything I owned and people turning their backs on me, but my God revealed to me that He wasn’t finished with me yet.” He said.
Most recently, Harris survived open heart surgery in 2015.
Harris is a retired Itinerant Elder of the AME Church, and Pastored Ebenezer AME Church in Benton, Mississippi, Barnett Chapel AME Church in Lawrence, Oklahoma and Greater Ward Chapel AME Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
His new book, “Overcoming the Fear of Flying” is both cathartic and autobiographical. “This book is another form of ministry.” He says. “It started on my laptop three years ago. Now God has evolved me to enter another realm of ministry.”
“It becomes very clear that he is the mate, and Christ is the Captain.” Larry McAlley, a fellow military veteran and member of the Buffalo Soldiers of Florida, of which Harris is also a member.
“Pastor Eddie Harris has given an insightful and powerful manual here which helps believers overcome their flight fears.” Said Louis Bell, Pastor of Kingdom Exchange Ministries. “He has showed that believers can have a flight plan.”
Within the work, Harris challenges believers to overcome their fears by understanding the nature of fear, staying in their assigned seats, traveling light and sticking with the flight plan.
In addition to his ministry accolades, Harris is a former member of the Orange County Branch NAACP Executive Committee, Orlando Urban League Housing Committee, founding member of The Orlando Magic Advisory Committee, former member of Valencia Community College’s Black Advisory Committee and currently serves as Christian Education Director for the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Central Florida Chapter.
His career spanned into education as well, as the former principal of St. Mark Preparatory School.
“I’m proud to know that my friend Eddie Harris is in this season to reap what he has sown.” Said Rev. Pamela K. Fegan Chaney of Breaking the Chains World Ministries.
As an author, evangelist, arranger and worker for the Kingdom, Harris continues to lean on Christ, who is the author and finisher of his faith.
“This book meets you in the right place and Rev. Harris is the right preacher to show that you can soar.” Said Minister Crystal Brown.
