Intriguing Affairs presents “A Classic After-Party with Kelly Price” at the Orange County Convention Center. FAMU College Of Law Hosts
Open House And Tailgate Party

ORLANDO – Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law will welcome visitors for an open house and tailgate party just before FAMU takes on Bethune-Cookman University (BCU) during the upcoming Florida Classic football game.

The FAMU College of Law Open House and Tailgate Party will kickoff at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the law school campus, 201 Beggs Avenue in downtown Orlando. The theme of this year’s event is “Destination Accreditation” as the law school seeks to drum up support for its quest for accreditation from the American Bar Association (ABA) next year.
Presented by the Office of Admissions, the open house is geared toward potential law students, including current college students and graduates of all ages with an interest in attending law school. The prospective law students will receive an overview of the admission’s process and financial aid information, and they will take part in a mock law class. The open house will also include a law student panel with FAMU law students discussing their experiences with event attendees.  Tours of the law school will be available following the panel.
The tailgate party will begin at 11am, in the student lounge on the south end of the campus. Featuring a barbeque and family-oriented games, the tailgate will offer prospects, students, alumni and friends an opportunity to fellowship and support the team. The tailgate also will present the first glimpse of a campaign to spur enthusiasm for the law school’s plan to become fully accredited by the ABA in early 2009.
There is no cost to attend either event. To participate in the open house, guests are asked to RSVP prior to the event by e-mailing famulaw.admissions@famu.edu.
The tailgate party is sponsored by the FAMU College of Law, the Student Bar Association, the Gwendolyn Sawyer Cherry Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity, and the Women’s Trial Group.
The FAMU College of Law was founded in 1949 on the main campus in Tallahassee. After graduating 57 lawyers, the law school was closed by the state of Florida in 1968. The Florida Legislature voted to reopen the law school in 2000 and Orlando was selected as the location. The reestablished FAMU College of Law opened its doors in 2002 and is now housed in a state-of-the-art facility in downtown Orlando’s Parramore neighborhood.
