Guardian Care Supporters Bring Holidays Gifts
ORLANDO - In this season of joyful giving, Florida House Representative Travaris L. “Tray” McCurdy, Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell and Delta Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., showered expressions of love, appreciation and support on the Guardian Nursing and Rehabilitation staff and residents.
When asked about his gift, Representative McCurdy said, “They were on the front line, taking care of so many of our family members and so many of our loved ones especially throughout this pandemic, I just sought to show them some appreciation. While there was a shortage of turkeys this holiday season there hasn't been a shortage of the dedication and the support from the staff at Guardian Care. In turn, there should be no shortage in what we do as a community to show them that we thank them and appreciate what they do. That is what my office set out to do and was happy to provide all 130 staff members with gift cards.”
For 13 consecutive years, Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell has hosted an annual “Senior Holiday Brunch” in early December to give back to one of our most valued populations in our community. Clerk Russell began this initiative while she was an Orange County Commissioner in 2006. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic the event had to be canceled last year.
This year Clerk Russell is excited to bring back her annual holiday brunch in a hybrid way. On Thursday, December 9, 2021, the food for this holiday brunch was delivered to Guardian Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Each year, Centerplate Catering has donated the food to this worthy cause and has been an incredible partner in this effort.
A huge truck arrived at Guardian Care and Tiffany Moore Russell lead a caravan of racks of food in warmers into the facility. A scrumptious meal consisting of turkey and ham, stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, candied yams, bread roll, salad and apple pie was served to all. This gesture put big smiles on the faces of residents and staff. “I feel so special” said one of the residents.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Omicron Omega Chapter requested a list of needed items from the facilities administrator, Ms. Eloise Abraham and purchased a television for the residents and presented a check for the purchase of other needed items.
These gifts were especially appreciated by the Guardian Board of Directors and management team, given the tremendous stress that has been placed on the finances, staffing and morale during these troublesome times.
Guardian Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has been a pillar in the community since its establishment in 1958. During the height of COVID-19, Guardian Care completed the development of a newly built 104-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation center to replace their existing facility, while continuing to provide top-notch care to residents.
