TAVARES - Tavares Middle School's Patriot Jazz Ensemble performed for the members of Lake County’s Retired Educators Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Tavares Community Center at 100 Caroline Street, Tavares, Florida.
Retirees enjoyed listening to the cool and easy flowing jazz sounds fromthe Ensemble and student soloists. The 8th and 9th grade studentsplayed the saxophone, clarinet, trombone, trumpet, guitar, piano, and baritone saxophone.
Mr.Higginbotham, their music teacher, encouraged the students as he professionally introduced each student soloist before they began performing jazz classics like “Minnie the Moocher” by Cab Calloway and “Stompin attheSavoy”, a 1930’s jazz piece composed by Edgar Sampson and named after the famed Harlem nightspot, the Savoy Ballroom in New York City.Their renditions of “Hipster Buggy” and “Rock the World” brought out the talents of the entire Patriots Jazz Ensemble.
After the engaging jazz set, The Patriots Jazz Ensemble were treated to alunch of pizza and drink and LCREA presented them with a donation. Parents and school personnel were recognized for volunteering to help make the event successful.
